The object, and what marks it out

Sleeve, labels and inserts

  • Inlay - a multi-panel U-card, English and French, carrying the lyrics, the credits and the band photograph.
  • No barcode - the rear panel that would carry one on a retail copy is blank. Consistent with a mail-order club edition.
  • Condition - card creased along the folds and lightly foxed at one corner; every line of the distributor block is legible.
  • Not photographed: the shell. All eleven frames in this folder are of the U-card. The identification does not depend on the shell - the distributor line carries it - but the shell print is unrecorded here.

What distinguishes this pressing

  • The Columbia House Scarborough address - the discriminator, and an unambiguously Canadian one. 9550342 records it; 6573273, the US club edition on the same catalogue number, does not.
  • 788059C on the spine - a second, independent hit on the same row: Discogs records it as Columbia House's own catalogue number against Distributed By for 9550342 and for no other row in the master.
  • Distribué par - French alongside English - Canadian bilingual labelling, on the object rather than inferred.
  • Catalogue number C4-590258 - the match axis. It returns two rows, US and Canada, and by itself decides nothing.
  • The absent barcode - marks this as a club edition rather than the retail C4-90258. It does not separate the two club rows.

  • Case/inlay: general handling wear with some edge and corner softening; no cracks or splits visible in these shots.
  • Shell: light surface marks and handling wear are visible. No visible warping, tape spillage or shell damage in these photographs.

Nothing on this page comes from playing the record. No Goldmine grade is claimed for it, or any other. I have no record of where this copy came from.

What is settled, and what is not

Settled on the same line that settled folder 60, and it should be. This is the second of four Columbia House copies now on the shelf (folders 60, 73, 83 and 85), and all four carry the identical distributor block. The catalogue number C4-590258 returns a US row and a Canadian one; the Scarborough, Ontario address and the bilingual Distribué par belong only to the Canadian one, and 788059C on the spine is Discogs' recorded Columbia House number for that same row.

Worth stating plainly, because it is the one gap: this folder contains no photograph of the cassette itself. Eleven frames, all of the card. That does not weaken the grade - the deciding print is on the card - but it means the shell of this particular copy is undocumented, where folders 83 and 85 do show theirs.

Standing caveat: a club pressing absent from Discogs cannot be excluded.
