Why this grade

the strings on this tape are perfectly legible and they match nothing in master 19182. Across its 343 versions - 134 of them cassettes - there is no Team Records release, nothing catalogued T 9327, and no mention of RockLine; the four Indonesian rows are Billboard BB 10.8.58 and EMI E0103 / E0103-8. The programme is not the album's either: side A lists five titles and side B seven, twelve in all where the album has eight, and the lyric insert prints FLIGHT OF ICARUS - a Piece Of Mind title. This is the first copy on the shelf graded No match, and the grade means what it says: the evidence is good and it fits nothing here, which is a different fact from an identification that could not be narrowed

The object, and what marks it out

Sleeve, labels and inserts

  • Shell - black plastic, screwed, with a printed cream label strip rather than a full label. The artist name is applied by hand on both faces: painted in white on side 1, written in orange marker on side 2.
  • Inlay - thin paper card, heavily browned and creased, with a RockLine! series device and the album cover reproduced as a small inset rather than printed full-bleed.
  • Loose insert - a separate typewritten lyric sheet covering both the album's songs and the Piece Of Mind titles on side B.
  • Tax banderole - orange, printed LUNAS PPN with the Garuda emblem, stuck across the foot of the spine.
  • Condition - the poorest object on the shelf: paper browned throughout, creased along every fold, with ballpoint annotation and a previous owner's name on the shell.

  • No ℗ or © line, no year, and no manufacturer address appear on any surface these photographs cover - which is why the year field above says undated rather than 1988.

  • Shell: light surface marks and handling wear are visible. No visible warping, tape spillage or shell damage in these photographs.

What is settled, and what is not

This is a settled answer, not an unsettled one. The country is stated by the banderole, the label and catalogue number are printed on the inlay, and none of them matches anything in master 19182: no Team Records row, no T 9327, no RockLine, and four Indonesian rows that are Billboard and EMI with entirely different catalogue numbers.

The programme settles it further. A version of this master would carry the album's eight tracks; this tape carries twelve, and the lyric sheet prints FLIGHT OF ICARUS, which is from Piece Of Mind. Whatever this is, it is not one of the album's catalogued editions - so it holds none of them, and the wants and market pages correctly go on treating every version as un-held on its account.

What it probably is, stated as the guess it is rather than as a finding: a locally licensed or unlicensed Indonesian cassette of the kind Team Records issued in quantity, assembling an album plus filler from an earlier one onto a single tape. The hand-applied artist name and the printed-strip shell fit that reading. None of it is evidence about which edition this is, because there is no edition here to be about.

What would change the grade: this release being catalogued on Discogs - under this master or its own - at which point it becomes an ordinary identification against a candidate list. Until then the honest record is that the strings were read, and they match nothing.
