Why this grade

Catalogue 7243 4 96926 0 2 on the back inlay, the tray panel and both disc faces, with 'Printed in E.U.' on the inlay and 'MADE IN EU.' on both disc rims, leaves five Europe rows on the master (9376206, 4802864, 4001816, 6112808, 1887775); the same-catalogue Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Australia rows carry their own local matrices (TELTRON, DIDX/CDAC, Microservice, REGENCY MEDIA) and none of them is an EMI Uden or EMI Swindon cut. The mirror rings split the five. Disc 1 reads 'EMI UDEN 4969272 @ 1', which only 4001816 and 4802864 record; 9376206 and 6112808 have a Swindon-cut disc 1 ('496927 2 . 1 ...') and 1887775 is an ims Manufacturing pressing ('www.imsgroup.it 4969272'). Disc 2 then decides it: it carries '496928 0 . 2 :1:7' with 'EMI SWINDON' and 'IFPI L041' elsewhere on the same ring, while 4802864's disc 2 is recorded as 'EMI 4969280' with IFPI LV03. Among all Europe rows, only 4001816 lists a disc 2 ending ':1:7' (its 'CD2, variants 1, 3': '496928 0 . 2 :1:7 EMI SWINDON'), and that release is exactly the mixed Uden/Swindon glass-master pairing its own notes describe. The two ring halves sit in separate frames, so the photographs show both but not which one comes first on the ring. The owner's note agrees on every reading the photographs carry, with small slips the photographs correct: the disc 1 number is '4969272' on the disc (the note has '496272'), the Swindon plant is 'SWINDON' (the note has 'SWINDOM'), and the code is 'IFPI' (the note has 'IPFI'). The note's disc 1 'IFPI L046' is only partly legible in the photographs; the third character is blurred, so that reading is the owner's, and it matches what Discogs records for 4001816's disc 1. The disc 1 mould code '2519' the owner flagged as a strange character followed by 2519 is photographed, but Discogs lists 2515, 2524 and 2505 for disc 1 and no mould for variant 1, so this copy's mould is not recorded there. That is an unrecorded mould variant, not a contradiction. One Discogs data point disagrees: 4001816's barcode rows read '7 24349 68650 2' / 724349686502, while this back inlay and every other Europe row carry '7 24349 69260 2'. A barcode is shared across pressings and does not separate them, and the rest of 4001816 matches, so this looks like a data-entry slip on the release page rather than a different record. Confirmed because the disc 2 matrix is unique among the surviving candidates. The version list is incomplete by construction, so an uncatalogued pressing with the same rings cannot be excluded.

What the record says

Every line below was read off a native-resolution crop of the photograph named beside it.

Both mirror rings photographed under raking light, in close-ups, one section of the ring per frame. Disc 1: 'EMI UDEN 4969272 @ 1' reads as one continuous run between two square markers (IMG_3991, IMG_3992). On the same ring, 'IFPI L0' plus a blurred character and a final '6' (the mastering SID; the owner reads it as IFPI L046) (IMG_3993), and a moulded logo followed by '2519' in the inner clear band (IMG_3994, IMG_3995). Disc 2: '496928 0 . 2 :1:7' is read across two overlapping frames. IMG_4003 shows a square marker, then '496928 0', a dot and the start of '2'. IMG_4004 repeats '8 0', then the dot, '2', ':1:7'. Faint marks sit above the dot between the '0' and the '2'. Elsewhere on that ring: 'EMI SWINDON' followed by a triangle marker (IMG_4001) and 'IFPI L041' (IMG_4002). No single frame shows whether 'EMI SWINDON' sits directly after ':1:7', so ring= carries only the continuously photographed run.

Disc one carries the twelve tracks of A Real Dead One and disc two the eleven of A Real Live One, in the same order; the booklet dates the recordings to European venues in 1992 and 1993. Disc two is an enhanced CD carrying a video of Fear Of The Dark taken from Live At Donington.
