Why this grade

MVN 9911953 is printed three times over (spine, shell label and the owner's note agree), with PAL COLOUR on the spine, A Picture Music International Release, RUNNING TIME 95 MINUTES and the barcode 5 099999 119539. Three rows of the master carry that number: two UK (871017 and 5790672) and one German (6755088). The front sleeve's MAIDEN ENGLAND logo is red, and Discogs' own note on 5790672 says that entry has the yellow logo instead, so 5790672 is out. What is left is 871017 (UK) against 6755088 (Germany). Nothing photographed states a country: there is no Made in line, no rights society and no distributor address, and the catalogue number, barcode, BBFC E mark and text are all shared by both rows. The one difference on record is that Discogs lists an FSK 7 certification for the German row, and no FSK mark shows on the front, spine, back cover or shell label. That leans UK, but an absent mark is not a mark that was never there, so it narrows and does not settle. The spine's STEREO and the back's Mono-Stereo compatible fit 871017's Stereo descriptor, but Discogs' editors may simply have left it off the other rows, so it is not counted as a discriminator. The owner's note (MVN 9911953, 5 099999 119539) was checked against the photographs and matches them; it only confirms the shared strings and decides nothing between the two. The price sticker P6 15432 / 14 00062 is a shop label and carries no country. Standing caveat: the version list is incomplete by construction, so an uncatalogued pressing cannot be excluded.

Sleeve, labels and inserts

  • Standard VHS clamshell case in a card slip sleeve. Front is the red-logo Eddie-on-a-motorbike painting; the back carries the tracklist, five live photographs, the blurb and the barcode block.
  • Black cassette with a white paper label printed in navy. The label reads MVN 9911953, the same number as the spine.
  • A torn handwritten price sticker (P6 15432 / 14 00062) sits inside the case window.

  • Shell/tape: the cassette shell shows light handling wear. No visible cracking, warping or tape spillage in these photographs. The tape has not been played through in these shots, so its condition past the visible shell is unverified.

What is settled, and what is not

Narrowed (2): the UK row 871017 or the German row 6755088. The catalogue number MVN 9911953, the barcode, the BBFC E mark, the 95-minute running time and the red front logo are all on the copy, and between them they rule out 5790672 (yellow logo) and nothing else. Two rows survive, and no country is printed anywhere on this copy. The absence of an FSK 7 mark, which Discogs records for the German row only, leans UK; it is not proof, because a mark can be missing from a photograph without being missing from the object.

What would settle it is a printed country marker or a German age-rating mark: a Made in line, an FSK logo on the sleeve or shell, or a German-language sticker or insert. Failing that, a side-by-side against a known UK and a known German copy.

Standing caveat. The version list is incomplete by construction, so an uncatalogued pressing carrying the same number cannot be excluded.
