Why this grade
Only one row in the master fits: 2101226, the Japanese TOEMI LaserVision issue. Catalogue number TOLW-3042 (disc label, obi, sleeve booklet), barcode 4 988006 066250 (obi flaps, IMG_3844 / IMG_3846) and the side 1 run-out TOLW-3042-B 9M TO (IMG_3862) all match that row's record verbatim. The only other Laserdisc in the master, 9957362, is the US PA 91-377 issue with barcode 0 13023 25572 2, and nothing on this copy is American: Japanese text throughout, MADE IN JAPAN, MANUFACTURED AND DISTRIBUTED BY TOSHIBA-EMI LTD., JAPAN. Both rows are NTSC, so the video standard does not separate them; the catalogue number, barcode and Toshiba-EMI print do. The barcode alone would not be a discriminator in general, but no other row in the version list carries it. One detail disagrees with Discogs: side 2's run-out reads TOLW-3042-A 5M TO (the 5M in IMG_3856, the -A in IMG_3865) where 2101226 records TOLW-3042-A 9M TO. The 5 is a clear pixel-font 5, not the closed-top 9 of side 1 in IMG_3862 - so this is either a different lot number on the same release or a slip in Discogs' transcription. It is not a different catalogue number, barcode or sleeve, so the row stands, but this copy may carry an undocumented stamper variant. The owner's note, which gives side 2 as A 5M TO, agrees with the photographs and was used only to tie the -A frame (IMG_3865, which does not show the label's side number) to side 2; it did not decide the row. The note's TOVM-3042 for the obi is a misreading: the obi spine flap prints TOVW-3042 (IMG_3846) and the booklet prints TOLW-3042 TOVW-3042. Standing caveat: the version list cannot exclude a pressing that is not on Discogs.

What the record says

Every line below was read off a native-resolution crop of the photograph named beside it.

Side 1 (label reads SIDE 1): TOLW-3042-B 9M TO, etched in pixel-style characters on the clear band between the label and the signal area, read across IMG_3859 (TOLW-), IMG_3860 and IMG_3861 (3042-B 9M) and IMG_3862 (2-B 9M TO, the 9 closed at the top). Side 2 (label reads SIDE 2 in IMG_3856): TOLW-3042-A 5M TO, with the -A in IMG_3865, the 5M TO tail in IMG_3856 and the M TO in IMG_3866. The 5 in IMG_3856 was rotated upright and read at native resolution: top bar, left upright, middle bar, right-hand lower loop. The characters sit against a bright rainbow reflection, so the letters are read from several frames rather than one.

The object, and what marks it out

Sleeve, labels and inserts

A 12-inch two-sided CLV Laserdisc in a Japanese jacket with a red Toshiba-EMI obi still on the front and its flaps folded over the rear. The obi spine flap has a white section with the Toshiba-EMI address and a boxed VC catalogue number.
The jacket is a single sleeve with the Derek Riggs cover art in colour on the front and a black rear panel with a yellow-lettered chapter list.
An inset booklet: a monochrome cover and track list, a two-page English lyrics spread, and a Japanese liner-note page. The obi's TOLW-3042 and the booklet's TOLW-3042 TOVW-3042 head are the printed numbers.
Both disc labels are white and blue with the PMI logo, the boxed NTSC and the Toshiba-EMI legal text. The run-out is a band of pixel-lettered characters in the clear zone between the label and the signal area, visible only in raking light.

What distinguishes this pressing

MADE IN JAPAN on the jacket and MADE BY TOSHIBA-EMI LTD., JAPAN on the disc label - direct manufacturing statements that agree. Country is Japan on the strength of these, not inferred.
Barcode 4 988006 066250 on the obi flaps - 2101226's printed barcode, verbatim. Shared-barcode caution applies in general; here no other Laserdisc row in the master carries it.
Run-out side 1 TOLW-3042-B 9M TO - matches 2101226's Side A entry exactly. Side 2 TOLW-3042-A 5M TO matches its Side B entry TOLW-3042-A 9M TO except for the lot digit, 5 against 9.
The oval logo beside NTSC on the disc label and on the jacket foot - reads as the JASRAC mark, and 2101226 lists JASRAC as its rights society. A territory marker, not a pressing marker.
9957362 (US, PA 91-377, barcode 0 13023 25572 2, Extended Play, Stereo) is out on catalogue number, barcode and the all-Japanese print.

Filmed at Birmingham N.E.C. on 27 and 28 November 1988, during the Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour -- Iron Maiden's own back-sleeve text calls it "a personal fans-eye view of Maiden at their bombastic best". Running time 95 minutes. The release credits no performing line-up.

Condition, from the photographs

A photograph cannot grade a record - this is a description of what is visible, not a grade.

Sleeve: general handling wear with some edge and corner softening; no splits or seam separation visible in these shots.
Disc: light surface marks and handling sheen catch the light. No visible deep scratches, warping or edge damage in these photographs.

Nothing on this page comes from playing the record. No Goldmine grade is claimed for it, or any other. I have no record of where this copy came from.

What is settled, and what is not

Confirmed on 2101226. Catalogue number TOLW-3042, barcode 4 988006 066250, the Toshiba-EMI Japanese print and the side 1 run-out TOLW-3042-B 9M TO all match that row, and the only other Laserdisc in the master (9957362, US) matches none of them. Side 2's run-out is the one loose end: 5M here against Discogs' 9M. That is a lot-number difference inside one catalogue number and one barcode, not enough to open a second row, but it may mean an undocumented stamper variant or a transcription slip on the Discogs entry, and no photograph here separates the two. Standing caveat: this method cannot exclude a pressing absent from Discogs.
