Why this grade

Every string on the paper and the disc face is the standard UK EMI issue: CDP 7991612 and CD EMD 1032 on the disc, Made in UK, BIEM/MCPS, barcode 0 077779 916122, the price codes D:568 and F:PM 520, and the inlay footer Sleeve Printed in England · Manufactured in England · SP9204JV. That leaves eight rows in the committed version list: the two UK rows and the six Europe rows that carry CDP 7991612, CD EMD 1032 (three of them filed as represses). The Israeli row 11653496 is out - it is filed Promo, and nothing on this copy carries a promo mark. The mirror ring reads CDP 799161 2 A0 1:2:13 EMI SWINDON, read across five overlapping frames, IMG_3256-IMG_3260. This corrects an earlier reading. Until 2026-09-16 this folder held three ring frames photographed off the wrong disc - they carried CDP 795142 2 A0 3:1:14 EMI SWINDON, which is No Prayer For The Dying's catalogue number and belongs to folder 153, not to this copy. The frames now in the folder show 799161 2, which is this album's own CDP 7991612 written the way EMI Swindon writes it in the ring, so the ring and the disc face finally agree. The glyph after the space is ambiguous between A0 (A-zero) and AO (A-letter-O) at this magnification; A0 is written here to match the sibling Swindon copy at folder 153, and the photographs stay the primary evidence. The ring still doesn't decide anything: the version list carries no matrix strings, so it can't be matched against any of the eight here, and the list is incomplete by construction, so an uncatalogued Swindon pressing can't be ruled out either. The 1:2:13 tail is conventionally read as father 1 / mother 2 / stamper 13 - a collector reading, not factory documentation, and not a date. There are no IFPI/SID codes on the disc, which is consistent with an early-1990s manufacture but does not prove a 1992 one

Condition, from the photographs

A photograph cannot grade a record - this is a description of what is visible, not a grade.

  • Case/inlay: general handling wear with some edge and corner softening; no cracks or splits visible in these shots.
  • Disc: light surface marks and handling sheen catch the light. No visible deep scratches or disc-face damage in these photographs.

Nothing on this page comes from playing the record. No Goldmine grade is claimed for it, or any other. I have no record of where this copy came from.

What is settled, and what is not

Compare the ring string CDP 799161 2 A0 1:2:13 EMI SWINDON with the Matrix / Runout notes on each of the eight Discogs release pages - the 1:2:13 stamper tail is the part that can single one out
