The object, and what marks it out
Sleeve, labels and inserts
- No paper label - this is a picture disc, printed across the whole playing surface with Derek Riggs' clairvoyant painting, the same image the album uses on its inner sleeve.
- Card display sleeve - black, with yellow corner banners reading
LIMITED EDITION,PICTURE DISC,WITH EXCLUSIVEandIRON MAIDEN BANNER. - Provenance - an original till receipt is present, dated 25 October 1988, from a shop in Portsmouth, for £7.99, paid with £8.00 and a penny change. The record was bought roughly six months after release.
What distinguishes this pressing
- The official UK picture disc,
EMDP 1006- not to be confused with the unofficial picture discs in folders 10 (Germany, 1998) and 16 (Brazil, 2001), which carry the album cover on one face and live photographs on the other. This one is the clairvoyant painting. - The artwork is the clairvoyant painting, the album's inner-sleeve image, rather than the ice-field cover.
- Sold with an exclusive banner. Discogs describes it as “35cm x 93cm … of polythene, not paper”. Folder 21 still has its banner; this copy's is not in these photographs.
- It carries its own purchase history - the only copy in the collection with a dated receipt, fixing exactly where and when it was bought.

Condition, from the photographs
A photograph cannot grade a record - this is a description of what is visible, not a grade.
- Card sleeve: light handling wear; the yellow corner banners are intact and legible.
- Disc: the printed surface is clean and bright in these shots, with the light handling sheen normal for a picture disc. No visible deep scratches or edge damage.
- Receipt: intact but fading - it is thermal paper thirty-eight years old, and the print is already noticeably light.
Nothing on this page comes from playing the record. No Goldmine grade is claimed for it, or any other.
What is settled, and what is not
Confirmed. The catalogue number EMDP 1006-B is printed on the disc itself, and the sleeve's WITH EXCLUSIVE IRON MAIDEN BANNER claim matches Discogs' description of release 1348869. There is exactly one UK picture-disc edition of this album.
Standing caveat: this method cannot exclude a pressing absent from Discogs altogether.
Worth doing, though it is not about identification: photograph the receipt on its own, square on and evenly lit. Thermal print fades, this one is already faint, and it is the only documented provenance in the collection. Discogs also records the release as issued with a “single leaf 12\" square insert, printed on both sides” and a “PVC sleeve with a lip” - whether this copy retains either is not shown in these photographs.
